Practical dates in November
November:
The bill for taxe d’habitation on second homes is sent out this month. It will arrive on one of several dates depending on how you opt to receive, and pay, the bill. 
If you do not pay monthly, the bill will go online on your personal space on the French tax website on November 3, and if you pay monthly it will arrive on November 17. Paper notices will be sent between November 6 and 28 if this is how you choose to receive them. Payment is due in December unless you have opted for monthly instalments.
November 1:
Winter tyres (or chains/socks) become mandatory in designated mountain communes under the loi Montagne.
You can check whether your area is affected via the government’s official interactive map (tinyurl.com/snow-tyre).
November 1:
Entry/Exit System (EES) checks begin at the Port of Dover for car and motorbike passengers, as part of the phased rollout of the new digital border system that started on October 12.
November 3:
End of vacances de la Toussaint – pupils across France return to school for the second term of the 2025–2026 year.
November 3:
Ryanair stops accepting printed boarding passes. Passengers must now show a digital boarding pass through the ‘myRyanair’ app, with only a handful of flights still accepting physical boarding passes. All flights to and from France will require digital passes from this date.
November 6: A day of anti-budget protests have been called by the CGT union, due to several unpopular measures in the 2026 budget. In particular, the day is looking to highlight the impact of the budget on pensioners.
November 12:
SNCF releases tickets for InOui and Intercités train journeys between January 8 and March 29, 2026.
November 17:
Deadline for paying impôt sur la fortune immobilière (IFI) by non-digital methods.
Online payments remain possible until November 22.
November 27:
SNCF adds around 29,000 extra tickets per week (22% more than usual) for trains to and from Strasbourg and Colmar until December 23, to meet demand for their Christmas markets.
November 27:
Automatic debit date for the third of four instalments of extra income tax for those who underpaid in 2024.
Those affected will have been notified in advance via their personal space on impots.gouv.fr or by post.
Cultural dates in November
November 1:
Toussaint (All Saints’ Day).
A national holiday when families honour deceased relatives, traditionally by placing chrysanthemums on graves.
This year, the date falls on a Saturday, but when it falls on a weekday it usually corresponds to a day off for most office workers. 
October 29 – November 2:
Salon du Chocolat in Paris (Porte de Versailles).
The world’s largest event dedicated to chocolate and pastry, featuring tastings, demonstrations, and a daily “chocolate fashion showâ€.
November 11:
Armistice Day.
A national holiday marking the end of World War One, commemorated with ceremonies at war memorials across France.
The traditional French remembrance symbol is the bleuet (blue cornflower), the equivalent of the poppy. Many workers will benefit from a day off. 
November 20:
Beaujolais Nouveau Day.
The new vintage of Beaujolais Nouveau wine is released on the third Thursday in November.
Expect festivals, tastings and parties in villages and bars nationwide.
November 28–30:
Les Gastronomades in Angoulême (Espace Carat, Charente).
A popular annual food fair celebrating regional produce and chefs through tastings, demonstrations and workshops.
November 28: Black Friday sales take place. Originating in the US, the day of heavy shopping discounts is now a global affair, and in France several stores offer special deals. Late November:
Christmas markets open across France.
Strasbourg’s opens November 26, Colmar’s November 25.
In Paris, the large markets at La Défense and at Square René-Viviani/Notre-Dame open on November 13 and November 29 respectively, offering festive food, crafts and a lively seasonal atmosphere.
General reminder
UK nationals – residency cards:
UK citizens with a five-year Withdrawal Agreement (WA) residency card issued in 2020 will see it expire in late 2025.
You should apply to renew it two to three months before expiry, via your local prefecture’s online portal, to obtain a 10-year card.
