List: how to apply for Brexit card renewals in different areas of France

An increasing number of prefectures have online procedures, but some are yet to provide information

Information on how to renew cards differs between departments
Published Modified

Holders of five-year Brexit Withdrawal Agreement (WA) residency cards need to renew them in coming months - here we look at where to find the relevant information depending on where you live in France.

Unlike the process for the first-issue of Brexit WA cards in 2020-2021, when the initial application was on one centralised website, the process for renewals is being organised prefecture by prefecture

However, the Interior Ministry sought to simplify this by inviting prefectures to use the same online process hosted on the website Démarches Simplifiées (DS).

We only identified a handful of prefectures as having done so by an initial proposed date of October 1 but an increasing number are now doing so. Campaign groups, however, are calling for more clarity and simplicity

Note that where a DS process has been put in place, people should only use it if invited to do so via the website of their prefecture.

Other areas are inviting local Britons and their families to use different procedures, such as sending an application to a specific email address or offering appointment slots to submit a paper application.

Below we provide links department by department to information we have identified so far. We will update this as more details come in, and invite readers to let us know if they have found website links that are missing from our list via feedback@connexionfrance.com

If your card is nearing expiry and no information is available we strongly advise getting in touch with your prefecture directly as soon as possible. Take an appointment, if possible, if you are not able to obtain a response by telephone or email.

There is one main prefecture per department, usually situated in the largest town or city. Some departments also have one or more ‘sub-prefectures’ but these often do not deal with foreign people’s residency issues.

Below is a list of links for departments which have provided updated information for renewals, as of October 29.
