Surprise strike at Toulouse airport: more than 50 flights cancelled

A surprise strike by civil aviation workers is causing disruption at Toulouse-Blagnac airport today (May 6), with up to 30% of the scheduled flights to and from the airport cancelled.
France’s Civil Aviation Authority (Direction générale de l’Aviation civile, DGAC) asked airlines to cancel these services to ensure safety at the airport.
As of 08:00 this morning, at least 28 flights scheduled to leave the airport and 27 arriving in the city are impacted, including several services to and from London.
Flights from British Airways, Ryanair, easyJet, Lufthansa, Iberia, and Air France are among those cancelled.
Passengers due to fly to or from the airport today are advised to check their travel itinerary.
Authorities warn that delays and disruption are likely on remaining flights as the airport struggles to cope with the impact of the action.
No other airport in France is impacted.

Travellers are asked to contact their airline for further information but can also check the airport website’s live for information.
Passengers whose flight has been cancelled will receive compensation from their airline, however it is more complicated for those whose flight is merely delayed.
Strike action by non-airline staff, such as by air traffic controllers or airport staff, is often classified as an ‘extraordinary circumstance’ by airlines and deemed to be outside of their control, making compensation claims impossible.
Further changes for compensation are on the horizon this year as flight delay payouts could be scrapped for millions of travellers including from France.
