Success for French rillettes vending machine

A charcuterie boasting the first 24-hour rillettes vending machine is claiming a success after selling 300 pots of its home-made meat spread during its summer closure.

Charcuterie Wiest in Le Mans, known for rillettes, filled it with 180g and 300g pots at 鈧�5 and 鈧�8 for July and August. 鈥淟e Mans is a touristy town, and people wanted the local speciality,鈥� said manager Emilie Goupille. Now they have added choucroute and ready-made meals to appeal more to locals caught short.

Rillettes are made by cutting pork and salting it, then slowly cooking it in fat before shredding and cooling. Rabe颅lais called it 鈥渂rown pig jam鈥�.
