Due to the ongoing summer holiday season and the 鈥渃rossover鈥� of the end of July, beginning today the alert level will be 鈥榦range鈥� across the whole country, worsening to 鈥榖lack (the most severe)鈥� by Saturday, especially for those departing on holiday (鈥渄ans le sens des d茅parts鈥�), according to Bison Fut茅, the French name for the national traffic information system.

The Mediterranean 鈥榓rc鈥� will be at 鈥榬ed alert鈥� - one up from orange, but not as severe as 鈥榖lack鈥�.

To avoid the worst of the queues, which are expected to delay journeys by between four hours and 20 hours, drivers are recommended to not travel Friday evening or night, or during the day on Saturday.

On Sunday, the alert level will be back down to 鈥榦range鈥�, especially for all drivers leaving on holiday.
