Orange recalls phone over radiation concerns
Budget flip phone exceeded European limits on electromagnetic radiation levels

Telecoms giant Orange has recalled a mobile phone sold under its own brand due to concern over the amount of electromagnetic radiation it emits.
Orange has contacted 90,000 customers who have bought its own-brand Hapi 30 flip phone to warn them of the problem, according to consumer magazine 60 Millions de consommateurs.
In certain conditions, the budget-model phone, emits 2.1 watts of radiation per kilogramme (W/kg) - above the European maximum limit of 2W/kg. According to Orange's own website, advertised levels for the phone, which was still listed as available, are 0.728W/kg.
Orange has insisted that the phone poses no health risks, despite exceeding EU limits on electromagnetic radiation - but the director general of regulator L’Agence nationale des fréquences warned that there could be more recalls in the coming months, after tests on other models revealed excessive levels of radiation.
