Holidaymakers warned to avoid travel on Saturdays
Summer holidaymakers in France are warned to avoid road travel on Saturdays, as they are most likely to see “red and black” traffic alerts during August.

The predictions from come amid the second “crossover” weekend of the summer holidays, between travellers coming back from July breaks, and those leaving for August, but continues across the rest of the holiday season.
The official advice warns travellers to wait until Sundays or Mondays to travel, and to change any Saturday reservations if possible.
Red and black are the two most severe warning levels, two up from the “normal” green, and above the “orange” that denotes difficult traffic.
Red means “very difficult” and black means “exceptionally difficult” movement on the roads.
