The limit of 30 people allowed to attend religious services during lockdown has been eased, to be replaced by a rule involving seat positions.

Now, places of worship will have to ensure that there are at least two seats free between each person or members of a household and that only one row of seats out of two is used.

This will probably allow places of worship to host more people at religious services than before due to the size of the rooms.

The decision was announced by interior minister Gérald Darmanin on Wednesday, December 2.

There are ongoing negotiations taking place between the government and religious groups to prepare for the next phase of deconfinement, set to take place on December 15.
