Motorway toll booths open despite strike
Operator Vinci insists that services in south will operate as normal over weekend despite walkout in pay dispute
Motorway operators Vinci have insisted services will not be affected by a two-day strike involving staff across the south of the country.
The walkout - which coincides with a winter holiday crossover weekend - began on Friday morning and will last until early Sunday, as unions demand a 1.2% pay rise and an additional €50 a month for staff. The company has responded with an offer of 1.5% without the flat-rate increase.
But Vinci insisted that it has enough non-union staff on call to ensure holidaymakers and other motorists do not face extended delays at toll booths.
