Autumn 2023 date for restoration of UK votes lost due to 15-year rule

Autumn 2023 has been proposed as the date by which Britons abroad who have lost UK voting rights due to the 15-year rule will be able to re-register following a legal change this year.

In a letter to an association for workers maintaining electoral registers, communities minister Greg Clark says secondary legislation is being developed for robust new processes to 鈥渇acilitate registration of electors from autumn 2023鈥�.

It will also include allowing people to apply for a postal or proxy vote on a website.

There have been concerns that a snap election could be called, but Prime Minister Liz Truss says she does not think Britons want this.
