The amazing ‘tree’ is really six yews that have been sculpted over generations to form a network of branches and a single rounded shape.

Owner Delphine Higonnet says it can be a shelter from the wind and rain, a children’s playhouse or lovers’ hideaway, and up to 10 people can fit inside.

The ‘tree’ is in the Jardin des Ifs in Gerberoy, which has been opened to the public by Ms Higonnet since 2016, along with her brother Pierre, who runs a restaurant in the house which was originally bought by their Parisian parents. The garden dates from the 17th century.
