The global recall is for electric kettle models under the brand 鈥淜itchenAid鈥�, manufactured between January 2013 and June 2017. Recalled models will also have a serial number including the code 5KEK1722.

The model and serial number of the kettles can usually be found on the bottom of the product itself.

Internal testing revealed that the handle of the kettle model was at risk of 鈥渂ecoming loose and separating from the kettle, potentially causing injury鈥�, from the company.

All consumers with potentially-affected kettles should 鈥渟top using鈥� their product, and check the website www.repair.whirlpool.com to be sure. Whirlpool has committed to replacing 鈥渁ll the affected kettles for free鈥�.

The company confirmed it had already changed its manufacturing process for the product at its factory in China, to guarantee that new kettles will not be affected by the flaw.
