Watch: 鈥楽hooting star鈥� meteor lights up Paris and Rouen skies

The accurate prediction of the bright meteor has also been hailed as a sign of 鈥榤ajor progress鈥� in asteroid detection capabilities

A bright 鈥榮hooting star鈥� that was seen over Paris at around 04:00 last night (Sunday, February 12) was a small meteor around a metre wide, the European Space Agency (ESA) has said.

The object entered the atmosphere and burned up, causing the impressive light.

The meteor, called 鈥楽ar2667鈥�, appeared in the skies above Paris and Rouen, and was also seen from parts of England.

The ESA said: 鈥淭his is only the seventh time that the appearance [of a meteor like this] has been predicted before it happens. A real sign of major progress in the global detection of asteroids!鈥�

A video from Le Havre, northern France, also shows just how bright the meteor was across the night sky as it burned up.
