Warning from bank watchdog over new 鈥榣arge-scale鈥� email scam in France
Fraudulent emails have been sent out using the organisation鈥檚 letterhead and asking individuals and companies to make payments to its deposit guarantee scheme

People are being asked to be vigilant in light of fraudulent emails that appear to have been sent on behalf of the banking industry watchdog l鈥橝utorit茅 de Contr么le Prudentiel et de R茅solution (ACPR).
The authority has been targeted by scammers intent on using its letterhead in an effort to extract payment from individuals and companies.
Messages began to be sent out on Friday and relate to the ACPR鈥檚 deposit guarantee scheme or 鈥榝onds de garantie des d茅p么ts et de r茅solution鈥�
Recipients of the scam emails were advised of outstanding contributions that needed to be made and advised to follow scammers鈥� instructions carefully to ensure settlement.
The authority took swift action by issuing a the same day to clarify that it was not behind the emails and urged recipients not to act on them.
鈥淥nly credit institutions are subject to the obligation to pay contributions to the deposit guarantee scheme, the ACPR confirmed.
鈥淲e do not have precise information on the number of people affected by these fake emails to date," the authority told .
"However, we assume it was a large-scale mailing鈥�, it added.
