鈥楾hey鈥� is plural

I cannot agree with the short article on page 11 of your January edition which states that 鈥渋n English, 鈥榯hey鈥� can be used for one person...鈥�

鈥淭hey鈥� is plural, and one always says 鈥渢hey are鈥�.

In the singular, 鈥渉e鈥� or 鈥渟he鈥� are used, eg. 鈥淪he is.鈥� English, like French, has no accepted way to refer to a gender-neutral or non-binary individual 鈥� although Americans may feel otherwise!
