The national protests against pension reforms expected on Tuesday (October 1) should only cause 鈥榮light鈥� disruption to local and national rail services, with the SNCF expecting its services to run 鈥渁lmost as normal鈥�.

Two major unions representing railway workers have filed strike motions for October 1 as part of a national protest against the reforms and the wider political situation. 

The date was chosen to coincide with a major policy address by Prime Minister Michel Barnier.

While it was initially feared that the strike would cause major disruption, SNCF has dismissed this possibility.

鈥淎s part of the national industrial action, traffic on SNCF Voyageurs trains will be almost normal on Tuesday 1 October鈥�, said the company in a press release.

Public services are expected to be impacted

鈥淣ormal鈥� rail traffic is expected on TGV routes, with slight disruptions to 鈥渟ome traffic鈥� on certain regional lines (TER, Transilien) and Intercity routes, according to SNCF.

If there is a disruption to a TGV or Intercities service, the SNCF will contact passengers with tickets to these services by text message or email.
