Site helps drivers in France to swap car for eco model
Drivers in France are being encouraged to exchange their cars for a more eco-friendly vehicle - and save money in the process - with a new website set up by the government to help calculate the costs.
The site, ("I change my car") has been launched by the ministry for the ecological transition.
It provides a tool (in French, below) allowing owners to calculate the cost savings they could make if they switched their current petrol or diesel car to a more eco-friendly model, including moving to an electric vehicle.
The tool asks you to input details such as the licence plate of your current vehicle, your home and work addresses, and your working hours. It then uses this information to provide an estimate of how much money and fuel you could save if you made the switch, and offers examples of vehicle options.
The site also lists national grants and other help available to eco-friendly car owners, including the ecological bonus, and the conversion grant; as well as other local schemes at regional, departmental, and city-wide level.
It also promotes alternative means of transport - such as walking, using a push bike, car-sharing, and using public transport.
