“Intense electric activity” is expected for the Var and the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, with rainfall of between 30-50mm in 1-2 hours - and 80-90mm in some areas - as well as gusts of wind of up to 110 kph.
Storms could also bring very heavy rain, the forecaster said, with intense rainfall over short periods, as well as the possibility of hail.
Drivers are warned that visibility may be reduced, and that driving conditions may be difficult, with residents warned to travel only if 100% necessary. Trains may also be affected.
Residents are warned to be alert to falling debris and rising floodwater, and to avoid using electronic devices outside.
The warnings continue one day after intense storms hit 46 departments yesterday, with extremely heavy rainfall and gusts of wind of more than 100 kph. The strongest wind was recorded in Laval (Mayenne, Pays de la Loire), at 113 kph, and the town also suffered flooding.
