The work, named 鈥淏acchantes S鈥橢nla莽ant鈥� after its two embracing figures, is made in white plaster and dates from 1896.

It the Mus茅e Marmottan in Paris for a sum of 鈧�108,000 - slightly more than its estimate of 鈧�80,000-鈧�100,000.

The work was sold by auction house Besch Cannes Auction, after recently appearing in an exhibition named Monet Collectionneur (鈥淢onet Collector鈥�).

Dedicated to the artist Claude Monet - a great friend of Rodin - the sculpture formed part of a body of work sold by Monet鈥檚 descendants.

The collection also included nine drawings by Monet - some of which were sold for over 鈧�20,000 each - as well as a paintbox belonging to the painter, which was sold for 鈧�8,400.
