The week leading up to Christmas has proved very special for bosses at Toulouse airport, as it this week welcomed its nine millionth passenger in 2017 - a record, and an increase of one million on the previous 12 months.

The explosion in passenger numbers has been credited to the number of budget airlines flying into the city, notably Ryanair, Easyjet and Volotea, who have between them added 15 new destinations to the airports roster.

Meanwhile, shuttle services between the Pink City and Paris operated by Air France and Easyjet make that route among the most popular in Europe.

A major expansion plan - including the expansion of Hall D and the creation of a dedicated embarkation jetty for low-cost airlines - at the airport began in 2017, and is due for completion in 2018.
