Illegal late-night quad racing is disturbing the peace of three areas of Montpellier, locals have claimed.

Sleep-deprived residents in the Figuerolles, cité Gély and Parc de la Guirlande areas have demanded an urgent meeting with the city's mayor Philippe Saurel to air their concerns over road safety and noise pollution caused by unscheduled and apparently spontaneous 'urban rodeos' in the streets.

They say that quad and bike riders gather in the areas, with races regularly taking place between 12pm and 2pm, and again from 4pm until late into the night. Some residents have said they are considering moving away because they are struggling to sleep at night.

They fear the races could cause accidents, as well as health issues for residents.
