Internet service provider Orange in the UK, now part of EE, is closing its email service from the end of this month – affecting anyone who still uses an orange.net, orangehome.co.uk, wanadoo.co.uk or Freeserve email address.

The company revealed the change to its broadband customers in February but the information has only recently been widely publicised.

Once the service closes on tomorrow (May 31), users will not be able to access accounts (apart from information held in Outlook), send or receive any emails from an Orange email address, or access contacts and emails in any way.

We know that Connexion readers are among those affected so are advised to set up an alternative email address quickly and change any online accounts that use the address (such as Connexion subscriptions). We are emailing subscribers with the method to change their details on our system.

The change affects users with the following email addresses:

* Orange.net

* Orangehome.co.uk

* Wanadoo.co.uk

* Freeserve.co.uk

* Fsbusiness.co.uk

* Fslife.co.uk

* Fsmail.net

* Fsworld.co.uk

* Fsnet.co.uk

EE says that no customer has been assigned any of these addresses since at least 2012 and that modern email systems such as Gmail and Microsoft’s Outlook.com have more advanced functions.

There is no sign that EE will make arrangements for a transition period, with emails being forwarded to another address for a short period. It has a page with advice on how to set up a new address with another supplier.
