Five departments in northwest France are on orange weather alert for coastal flooding, with gusts of wind of up to 120kph expected, forecaster M茅t茅o France has said.

The alert came into effect at 05:00 today - Sunday, November 15 - and is expected to remain in place until 03:00 on Monday 16.

The five departments are:

• 贵颈苍颈蝉迟猫谤别,
• Manche,
• Seine-Maritime,
• Somme,
• Pas-de-Calais.

Waves between five and seven metres high are expected in coastal areas.

M茅t茅o France said that these strong waves will be heightened further 鈥渋n the context of high tides鈥� and that the 鈥渋ntensity of the weather will be strongest out to sea鈥�.

In addition 48 departments - those clustered towards the northwest and north of the country - are on yellow alert for flooding, rain and strong wind.
