No crown for poor service
While visiting Antibes, my wife and I went into a bakery to buy a Galette des Rois. The woman handed it to me in a brown paper bag instead of a box and a ribbon, and no crown, which surprised us, especially as our total purchases came to €18.
I am fluent in French and mentioned my disappointment at the service – or in this case the lack of it.
Her response was as follows: “Had it been a cream cake, I would have given it to you in a box, but being a puff pastry one, you will have it in a brown paper bag, or pay extra for a box.â€
I responded by telling her what and where she can have her cake and walked off.
