A new government site – – has launched to help you to keep your possessions longer or find a new use for them instead of binning them.
It provides a directory of 76,000 associations and companies which can help share, hire, rent out, buy secondhand, give away or repair items.
State agency Ademe says if everyone kept their television for nine years, not eight, it would reduce emissions by 1.7million tonnes of carbon dioxide, the amount produced in a year by a city the size of Lyon.
