Heatwave could see more areas reach 42C, after over a dozen record highs were broken yesterday

The heatwave pummeling France is set to end on Friday, but temperatures are expected to remain extremely high until the end of the week.
Almost all of southern France could see temperatures above 34C today (August 22).
At the time of writing, four departments are placed on a tier-four red level warning for the first time this year, with more potentially being added today.
Drôme, Ardèche, Haute-Loire, and Rhône were all placed in the highest category, with Météo France saying other southern departments such as Vaucluse and Gard could see their levels elevated as well.
There are 49 departments currently facing tier-three orange warnings for heatwave conditions in the southern half of the country.

On Wednesday (August 23), two areas around the Rhône and Garonne valleys could see temperatures up to 42C.
