Most of the country will see sunny skies this weekend

A calm and sunny weekend is on its way for France. The south-west in particular is set for highs of 26C, above average for the season.

Friday October 10

Clouds across the northern half of France in the morning will progressively retreat, and by the afternoon will only cover coastal Normandy, Brittany, and parts of Hauts-de-France.

The south will see plenty of sunshine, and it will stay dry across the country with the exception of Corsica, where showers are likely.

Temperatures will hover at around 18C in the north in the afternoon, and around 20C in the south. Along the Mediterranean coast, highs of 25C are possible.

Note that temperatures are measured in the shade, so being outside in the sun can make it feel significantly warmer.

Saturday October 11

A calm high pressure system from the British Isles will impact France’s weather over the weekend, keeping it dry and stable.

Clouds in the north-east may last throughout the day, but elsewhere winds will blow away most of the coverage, leaving sunny skies.

No rain is forecast for any part of the country.

Temperatures will remain similar to Friday, but in the south-west rise to 23C, with local highs of 26C.

Higher than the mid-October average, the conditions are more reminiscent of early September.

Sunday October 12

The high pressure system will remain in place, keeping conditions much the same as on Saturday.

Only the Pyrénées-Orientales will see any change, as thick clouds – and potentially rain – from storms across the border in Spain threaten the area.

Temperatures may again reach 26C in the south-west, with sunshine predicted across the country.

Early forecasts see calm and sunny skies lasting into next week, although a shift towards more autumnal temperatures is expected.
