An electric scooter-share service launched just a month ago in Bordeaux has been suspended.

The decision comes less than a week after France banned electric foot scooters from pavements.

Operator Lime said that it had stopped its service and pulled its scooters off the streets to allow time for a consultation with city officials over a 'sustainable framework'.

Mayor Alain Juppé had previously stated on several occasions that the rise in popularity of these scooters posed problems for other road users.

Lime began operations in the city in late September without prior arrangement, regional newspaper Sud Ouest has reported. Services in other cities had earlier been suspended - notably in Toulouse, where the scooters were pulled after just three days.
