France Covid-19 Update: Daily cases top 10,000

Cases rise over 10,000 a day France over the weekend, as the World Health Organisation (WHO) predicts a 鈥渉igher鈥� death toll in Europe in October and November.

The latest figures from health body (SPF), released on September 13, show a slight fall in daily Covid-19 cases in France after exceptionally high numbers for the previous four days.

In the 24 hours prior to figures being released on September 13, there were 7,183 new cases of Covid-19 reported in France.

However, the previous day (September 12) there were 10,561 cases reported in 24 hours. This marks the highest ever number of daily cases in France and the first time national daily figures have topped 10,000.

Figures for daily cases from September 9-11 were between 8,500 and 9,850.

SPF figures from September 13 also showed:

The rate of positivity in France is at 5.4%. This is up from 5.2% for weekly figures from the week ending September 8.
826 clusters are currently being investigated in France, a rise of 66 in the previous 24 hours.
77 departments are currently considered moderately or highly vulnerable.
6 deaths have been recorded in the past 24 hours

World Health Organisation predicts rise in death toll

Hans Klude, director of the European branch of the WHO told news source that he expects Covid deaths to rise in Europe in the coming months.

He said: 鈥淭hings will become harder. In October and November, we will see a higher number of deaths.鈥�

Cases throughout Europe have been rising for the past few weeks, most notably in France and Spain.

On Friday September 11, 51,000 new cases were reported in total from the 55 European countries represented by the WHO. The current European death rate is around 400鈥�500 per day, the same level it has been at since the beginning of June.
