A heightened warning for heavy rain and flash-flooding has been raised for the Pyr茅n茅es-Atlantiques department as fierce storms are set to batter several areas of France. 

Between 50 mm and 80 mm of rain is set to fall in the department between today (August 13) and Wednesday (August 14) afternoon, rising in some places to 100 mm.

Flood risks are heightened due to the 鈥渦nusual flooding of streams and ditches,鈥� said the local prefecture in a press statement.

It is also warning of the risk of "overflowing sewage systems鈥�. Roads and regional rail routes may also be affected with travellers recommended to check their routes in advance.

Several departments in central and eastern France are facing heightened storm warnings today and tomorrow.

Other departments may see warnings added in later updates, if storm conditions worsen.
