A dozen gendarmerie officers and dogs were dispatched at the beginning of this week to search for the man, who is in his 40s, after he went missing in Faucon, near Vaison-la-Romaine in Vaucluse (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur) according to .

The man, who was reportedly very drunk, had been at a party with friends when he allegedly jumped out of a window.

His friends then heard a ‘plouf’ sound, like something falling into a small amount of water, but despite numerous attempts to locate him, the man appeared to have disappeared.

It was only when the gendarmerie found him in the forest the next morning, that it emerged it had fallen into a well outside the window. Luckily, he was uninjured and able to escape unaided, before finding his way into a nearby forest.

He was found by the gendarmerie - a little worse for wear, but otherwise unhurt - several hours later.
