Covid France: Painful swallowing is new symptom related to OmicronA sore throat and painful swallowing have been linked to the Omicron variant of Covid as suspected symptoms.
The typical symptoms of Covid are a cough, fever, shortness of breath, headaches, loss of taste or smell, fatigue, aches, etc.
But there are more frequent reports of patients with Omicron experiencing odynophagia, the medical term for painful swallowing.
French woman Gwendoline Placier, 41, had this issue recently.
“The first time I felt it was when I ate my evening meal,†she on Monday (March 14).
“I had the irritation, and over time it started to get worse. When I swallowed the food, that's when I felt discomfort.â€
If you experience this symptom you can consult your doctor, who may prescribe anti-inflammatory medicine.
A nutrition expert at Nutrisens said that patients who experience this can also stick to softer foods for a while to reduce irritation.
