Be prepared for fire service
Here is a piece of advice which I hope will help others.
We unfortunately had need of the fire service to our house in rural Calvados and getting to it proved a major problem.
The fire service arrived fairly quickly and found our house without difficulty, but getting their engine through the gate, along the twisty, steep slope, turned out to be such a problem that it could have been catastrophic.
It’s worth being prepared for those with a similar problem.
We’ve now had the posts and gate moved.
