Look out for new US fast food chain
Popeyes opens its first restaurants in western Europe in southwest France
Another American fast-food chain has opened its first two restaurants in France.
Popeyes, famous for its fried chicken and reportedly a favourite of the pop star Beyoncé, has opened its first two restaurants in l'hexagone, in Montpellier and Toulouse.
They are the brand's first two outlets in western Europe.
If the pilot restaurants in Roques-sur-Garonne, near Toulouse, and Place de la Comédie in Montpellier, prove a success, the chain plans to open 800 further venues across Europe - including 150 in France - in the next 10 years.
France is hooked on fast food. It is McDonald's second biggest market, and the return of Burger King in 2014 after an absence of 15 years has proved a success. Other US fast food imports include the Five Guys burger franchise.
Popeyes opened its first restaurant in New Orleans in 1972. It now has more than 2,700 outlets worldwide.
