The Kilt Society de France association exists to bring together anyone in France who enjoys wearing a kilt.
鈥淲e鈥檙e very open,鈥� says association secretary Gibert Josse.
鈥淎s long as they wear a kilt properly, and can drink a bit of whisky, they鈥檙e welcome.鈥�
He stresses that a kilt is not a skirt.
鈥淲e鈥檙e in the 21st century, so if women want to wear kilts, that鈥檚 fine 鈥� as long as they are not mini-kilts or maxi-kilts or anything like that. But very few of our female members do wear kilts. Some wear tartan trousers, or dresses or skirts but in fact a kilt is meant to be worn by a man. My wife wears tartan trousers.鈥�
Kilts are traditionally worn in Ireland and Celtic parts of northern France as well as in some Celtic parts of Spain.
鈥淏retons are quite similar to Scots in many ways. It鈥檚 not just the question of kilts, in both cultures we know how to party all night and still work hard all the next day.鈥�
