To the Editor,
In response to the reader’s letter online insisting France can reverse its fortunes by looking to the example of the United States: heaven forbid it follows the Trump playbook!
The future of the US is very bleak in the hands of that man and his chosen coterie of sycophants, who will only enrich themselves at the expense of the general public.
The Rightward move globally is a terrifying thought.
What has happened to compassion, caring for those who are less fortunate than oneself, and creating a safety net for those who fall on hard times through illness or redundancy?
While Macron has his faults, of course, he has steered France well for the past years, including during the pandemic.
Local businesses have kept their heads above water here due to the support of his government, and are now back in profit.
Most would agree that there does need to be some belt-tightening and readjustment in pensions, tax and health costs.
However, all in all, they have weathered the past storms, and current challenges, very well.
